“i was watching a porno. i had a dream of girls in bikinis and ski masks robbing fat tourists. it seemed like it should happen during spring break.”
-Harmony Korine
Having read interviews with Harmony Korine where he says his film is structured like a pop-song, at one point in the film I was reminded of the manifesto Charolastra:”Pop beats poetry”. Korine takes that a little further and turns it into “pop murders poetry” in his brash ballet of neon plastic, fluorescent bikinis, tits, guns, alcohol and bodily fluids. It is in this bleak landscape that Korine’s ski masked girls survive and thrive in. And they do it all in tiny scraps of fabric.
In his films, I love the way Korine plays with the narrative structure and that he builds entire scenes and stories around images. While Spring Breakers often does this perfectly, it begins to lose momentum near then end… and then it takes another shot of tequila and red bull before it speeds down the highway in a bright Ferrari.
